Onboarding Overview

Welcome to BharatMandi! This document will guide you through your first 90 days, providing clarity on our company, team, products, and your role. It will help you understand our users, the market, and our internal processes. By following this, you’ll feel confident about your responsibilities and contributions. The next steps involve setting up your work environment, meeting key team members, and deep-diving into our product strategy.

Introduction to company

BharatMandi serves the rural agritech and financial markets, connecting smallholder farmers, FPOs, and MSMEs to essential credit products and financial services.

Users

• ICP (Ideal Customer Profile): Smallholder farmers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), MSMEs in Tier 2 and beyond.

• User Journey: You’ll create a detailed map of how farmers and MSMEs onboard our platform, apply for loans, and use our marketplace.

Market

• We primarily acquire users through partnerships with banks and strategic rural outreach. Study competitor platforms (e.g., DeHaat, Agrostar), analyzing their onboarding processes and how they acquire users.

• Industry Insights: Rural lending faces unique challenges like credit risk, seasonal income, and limited financial literacy.


Product

• Study the onboarding flow, how we guide users through loan applications, and the engagement levers we use to retain them.

• Understand how we collect and leverage data to optimize the credit process and customer experience.


Team

• Collaborate with the Product, Operations, Tech, Risk, and Business teams.

• Understand previous cross-functional experiments and operational strategies for improving credit offerings.

As a Product Manager for Credit, you’ll shape the credit products that enable farmers and MSMEs to access loans easily.

Who are we?

• We are a product team that designs and delivers impactful financial solutions for rural India.


What is the teams function?

• We develop scalable financial products that solve credit accessibility issues for our rural customers.


Why does the team exist?

• To bridge the gap between underserved rural communities and affordable financial products.


Impact of the team

• You will drive product success, directly impacting how farmers and MSMEs access loans and grow their businesses.

• There is a >INR 1Tn gap in formal credit in India specific coming from rural communities and we are going to capture a large part of this over next 5-10 years. You will be leading in creating a large part of this market especially if you stick around.


First 7 days

• Set up your workspace: Access tools like Slack, Notion, Google Drive, and Freshteam.

• Schedule introduction meetings with stakeholders (Product, Tech, Operations, Risk, and Growth).

• Read key documents (product roadmap, past reports, user feedback).

• Get access to the product and analytics dashboard.

• Join a demo or onboarding session to observe how our users interact with the credit product.
